Not a set doctrine

‘Not A Set Doctrine’ is alternative education classes for the public starting in late May for a trial of six months. These free classes will be weekly Friday 6pm-8pm at Catalyst social centre coburg. One subject with four topics will be taught each month.

No prior knowledge needed for attending classes. Classes will not be lectures. They will be structured to be beneficial to all walks of life. Please advise us of any disabilities that you have so that we can ensure the classes function best way possible for you.

Education is one of the key drivers to developing social change to improve the lives of the masses. Education can be the facilitator of transforming society if it is analytical, dialectic, individualised and expressive. Although anarchy has no set doctrine; despite some shared principals, it is a perspective that changes with each individual. The same is true of education.

We have seen the current schooling system effectively hinder independent thought and individualism. This is purposefully done to ensure a society that is unwilling or unable to challenge the authoritative structure.

Arthur Evans writes:

“Modern schools and universities push students into habits of depersonalized learning, alienation from nature and sexuality, obedience to hierarchy, fear of authority, self-objectification, and chilling competitiveness.”

I would like to help change this and I need your help to achieve this.

These classes will enable people to have analytical and dialectic skills that can shape how we talk about the changes needed in society. You will be taught how to think, not what to think.

Teachers in these classes will create a non coercive learning environment through non hierarchical approaches to teaching.

The first month will be on history with Frantz Fanon decolonisation explored.
